Coloured pencils are traditionally not thought of a medium used to create "fineart" artwork. In the US and UK coloured pencils artworks are rapidly growing popularity amongst artists and collectors. For artists they allow for a highly realistic artwork because of the fine detail that can be achieved with a very sharp point and many layers of colour. For collectors the research and development of coloured pencil products has allowed for greater lightfast standards, which means the product will not fade overtime and ensures the collector has a lifetime of enjoyment out of every coloured pencil peice.
All of my coloured pencil artworks are produced on 100% acid free paper sprayed with a UV varnish for added protection. The artwork process involves many many layers using the right colour combinations to achieve the desired look (much like glazing with oil paintings) so therefore coloured pencil pieces are one of the slowest mediums to work with.
Please visit my coloured pencils gallery on this website for examples of my coloured pencils artworks.
There aren't many artists within Australia who work with coloured pencils fulltime, so in order to increase awareness and for further information on resources for coloured pencil artists please visit the > Australian Coloured Pencils website.
